Business Development Manager 

Introduction

The Business Development Manager identifies areas of potential growth within existing and new customer accounts and develops strategic marketing plans to exceed the growth expectations in the VMG small animal veterinary market. These functions include, but are not limited to, development of websites and social media accounts, analysis of customer trends, blog content creator, brand steward, and local liaison between the practice and the community. The Business Development Manager reports directly to the Owner/Hospital Administrator and is expected to uphold the mission and values established by the organization.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Learn all the functions performed by the reception staff including, but not limited to, processing transactions, phone protocols, opening/closing duties, food and special order policies.

  • Verify end-of-day reports, cross-reference against end-of-day paperwork, CC batch report and money/checks collected for deposit, accounts receivable for financial discrepancies.

  • Make deposits to Bank of America weekly.

  • Manage accounts receivable bi-monthly.

  • Gather end-of-month reports (inventory, sales, AR, etc.) and give to accountant.

  • Gather quarterly data for VMG reporting and input into data link.

  • Keep A/R balanced and follow-up with payment plans.

  • Provide relief for and backup of reception.

  • Work well with all team members and ensure that your actions support the hospital, the veterinarians, and the practice philosophy.

  • Utilize social media marketing techniques to increase visibility in the community.

  • Monitor trends in social media tools, trends and applications and appropriately apply that knowledge to increasing the use of social media

  • Communicate to team, update on social media posting relative day to day operations.

  • Interact with vendors and organize group mailings on products, updates, new promotions, via phone, email or in person.

  • Strategize with and educate the management team and other veterinarian team members on incorporating relevant social media techniques into the hospital culture.

  • Manage and integrate social content (Facebook and our website, and increasing awareness through other social sites)

  • Work in conjunction with our website company to maintain website to current status. Make updates and changes, as necessary.

  • Bridge builder between our practice and the community in which we live.

  • Listen to and engage with the online community and act on the practice’s behalf. (Facebook)

  • Produce Facebook updates, contribute to and assist with website posts and newsletters to promote the practice to the community, featuring new content on an agreed upon schedule.

  • Use judgment as to when it is necessary to include management in on-line interactions or deleting inappropriate interactions.

  • Find ways to increase the client and community experience to make it more pleasurable and make sure we are exceeding our clients’ expectations.

  • Work on the website to keep current and up to date, such as pictures, written materials, and employee biographies.

  • Attend CE (Continued Education) as needed for marketing/social media, CE that assists with implementation and improvements to new & current hospital marketing and community ventures.

  • Maintain monthly newsletters and new client notifications such as digital text reminders.

  • Assist and direct photographic opportunities to incorporate into media announcements and showcase our facility, staff, veterinarians, and more..

  • Assist with fundraising activities and organize social community events

  • Create and maintain strong business relationships in the pet business community.

  • Planning and implementing promotional campaigns

  • Analyze data to depict trends in customer base and consumer population

  • Prepare internal and external communications including announcements, press releases, analytics reports, presentations, technical documentation, sales support, etc as needed.

  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

Control Over Work

The Social Media Coordinator is under the direct supervision of the Owner/Veterinary Hospital Administrator.  The Social Media Coordinator will recognize non-routine or unusual situations and refer them to the Veterinary Hospital Administrator with recommended solution(s). Work is reviewed in terms of adequacy of services provided.

Must have proficient knowledge and skill in the following areas:

  • Computer troubleshooting

  • Computer viruses and security

  • E-mail and internet programs

  • Analytical and problem solving skills

  • Decision making skills

  • Effective verbal, presentation and listening communications skills

  • Computer skills including the ability to operate computerized accounting, spreadsheet, word-processing, graphics and website development programs at a highly proficient level.

  • Time management skills
